Why volunteer?

It may seem odd for a fashion brand to request volunteers to help with a small business. I get it. I wrestled with this idea for a bit before opening it up to the community. Since starting this business, I have heard many people say “I really wish I knew how to sew. What a talent to have!” Or the amount of times I have been asked, “Do you ever think about teaching people how to sew?”

As much as I love teaching, my goal is getting this business into a profitable state. So far, I am breaking even, which is not bad! I am getting my creativity out and loving what I do! But, it is a slow journey and making clothes takes time, skill, and with the desire to keep it “slow fashion”, it will only take time.

But, why not mix the two? Bring in teaching while building the business? That is where the volunteering program came about. Similar to an internship, but less about barking orders and more about bringing folks along the journey, giving them an opportunity to learn while they help.

It is bartering skills at it’s core. Labor for learning. Not everyone has the time to offer, not everyone has the finances to take classes.

If you have a few extra hours a week, want to help in a budding new business, hang out with nerdy and creative people, while learning a ton about sewing or even starting a small business….come join the team!

It is a great way to not only gain skills, but also to learn skills specific to this one. That will help, because the moment that I start to make profit, you can guarantee I will be opening positions for this amazing fashion brand.
