How to Measure Yourself
Measuring yourself can be confusing, especially if you have never had to do this before today. You will notice the size chart has two sets of measurements. The top two rows are your measurements in your natural, beautiful state. The bottom two reflect the bodice measurement when closed completely.
This is important because when you measure yourself, it is best to take two measurements. One in your natural relaxed state and one with the tape tightened. That second one is helpful to know how far your body will squish down when the piece is tightened around you.
For example: I measure a natural 43" Bust and 38.5" Waist. When I tighten, that goes down to 40" Bust and 35.5" Waist. Therefore, I fit into Eyebright comfortably.
The following are some steps to help you measure specific parts of your body.
Tools
A cloth measuring tape (I linked the ones I have)
Something to write down the numbers
Possibly a buddy to help
*Tip: always keep the tape flat against your body!
BUST: Wrap the tape around your back, under your arms and across the largest part of your bust. If you are large chested, this is easiest with a sports bra on as it will not add any extra padding or length to the measurement.
Measure taught, not tight for the relaxed number. Then tighten the tape until tight but comfortable. These are not meant to cinch like a corset, but provide a comfortable squeeze.
WAIST: Wrap the tape around the smallest part of your waist. If your torso does not have a smaller part, bend to the side. The part where your waist bends is where you should measure your waist.
Same as bust, relaxed first, then tight.
How to compare to the chart: Look at your tight measurements and look at the closed bust and waist of the sizes in the chart. Find the size that meets a close fit. I am always here to help answer questions! Fill out the contact form or email me: thedarkmodiste@gmail.com.
